Secondary School Parent Event: Building Stronger Family Connections

On Tuesday, 24 June, Durham Road School hosted a Parent Event for all Secondary School families at the Enterprise Training Centre. The event commenced at 8:30am and welcomed more than 20 parents and family members.

A diverse range of service providers attended, offering valuable information and support on topics such as accommodation, home care, individualised supports, alternative pathways to employment, planning, and recreational opportunities. This provided families with the chance to explore the many resources available to support their young people as they transition into adulthood.

We were also pleased to welcome a representative from the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT), who delivered a highly informative presentation on guardianship. Their insights were well received, and the opportunity for parents to ask questions afterwards was greatly appreciated.

A feedback survey has been sent to all families who signed in at the event. If you attended but did not receive a survey and would like to share your feedback, please contact the school office and we’ll ensure you receive one.

Looking ahead, we are considering hosting parent coffee mornings for each phase group. These informal gatherings would provide a relaxed setting for families to connect, share experiences, and support one another. If you’re interested in participating, we would love to hear from you.

Thank you to all who attended and contributed to making the event a success. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our school community through future events and initiatives.
